Avalanche Information for the Scottish Mountains

14.04.24. Daily Avalanche Reports have ended for 2023/24 winter season.

Avalanche forecasts and Mountain information has ended for this winter. However we recommend that mountain goers currently venturing into the hills continue to observe weather forecasts prior to their excursions and visual observations of conditions during their trip. This information is important in making good plans and allowing for flexible decision making. PLEASE NOTE: Current cold conditions and new snow may present localised instabilities and hazard, especially in very steep wind sheltered places where accumulations become deeper on North-East to South-East facing slopes above 900m. Northerly mountain ranges will be most affected. Additionally, late winter hard snow conditions will persist above 1000m on North to East facing slopes mostly in the Cairngorms and Ben Nevis/ Aonach Mor ranges, these places will present a slipping and falling hazard when firm and icy. Cornices may also be a hazard on some slopes with collapse possible during warm spring conditions. We would like to thank you for your support over the winter and wish you an enjoyable summer. With thanks from the SAIS forecaster team.
