There was some thaw and re-freeze of the snowpack below 950 metres. Avalanche incident at 11.00 hrs. in Central Gully, Coire an t- Sneachda, North Cairngorms. Much avalanche debris from events on Friday on slopes of many aspects in North and South Cairngorms. Cornices are present above many slope aspects. A rise in temperature during the day has led to freezing levels rising to near or above the summits, particularly in Lochaber and Glencoe. The avalanche hazard in affected ranges remains High (Category 4). Avalanche Hazard Outlook Sunday 26/11/2000 Freezing levels will be around the highest summits in Lochaber and the Cairngorms. This, along with some rain on Saturday night, falling as snow at very highest levels, will lead to a period of high instability overnight in all ranges where accumulations are significant. With freezing levels continuing to rise, this instability is likely to persist into daylight hours on Sunday. As there are significant accumulations on the floors of many corries above 850 metres, the potential for long run- out exists. The avalanche hazard will remain High (Category 4). Avalanches will occur on slopes of all aspects in areas indicated. Climbing conditions: very few ascents being noted or reported. Note: this Report will be updated as conditions necessitate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
