Snow and Avalanche Report Issued at 19.30 hrs Tuesday 28/11/2000 A slow rise in temperature with rain showers has affected Highland ranges throughout the day. The snowpack is now wet and there has been a general slow stabilisation, but cornices are sagging and prone to collapse. The avalanche hazard in areas where substantial accumulations exist, mainly above 900 metres in the Cairngorms, Creag Meagaidh, Lochaber and some higher locations in Glencoe, is Considerable (Category 3). Avalanche Hazard Outlook Wed./Thur. 29-30/11/2000 The snowpack across Highland ranges will continue to thaw and reduce, with strong Southerly winds and rain. Freezing levels will be above the summits. Wet snow avalanches are likely on slopes of most aspects above 900 metres. Remaining cornices will be subject to collapse. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable (Category 3). Note: this Report will be reviewed on Friday 1/12/2000.
