avalanche risk at 1500 on mon 20/12/93
a recent freeze-thaw has resulted in a generally very stable snowpack
with hard icy conditions underfoot.
yesterday's very strong winds and snow showers have however led to a
build up of unstable windslab on sheltered south facing slopes and where
accumulations are greatest a category 3 (medium localised) risk of avalanche
exists.
small avalanche triggered in ciste mhearad.

avalanche risk outlook for tues 21/12/93
forecasted gale force north-westerly winds and snow showers should lead
to further build up of windslab on south to east facing slopes and
gullies. avalanche risk category 3,(medium localised).

south to east facing slopes and gullies.

the overnight freeze has consolidated the old snow pack creating a
very icy surface. isolated patches of soft slab exist in gullies &
hollows with a northerly aspect. where these patches exist the
avalanche risk category is 3 (medium localised).

forecasted  moderate/strong nw winds and snow showers
will continue to build up slab on n & e facing slopes.
avalanche risk will become category 4 (high) with a moderate amount of
snow fall.

avalanche risk at 1500 on mon 20/12/93
some deposits of unstable snow exist on top of a hard base. these
deposits are confined to north and east facing slopes. the avalanche
risk is category three (medium localised)

avalanche risk outlook for tues 21/12/93
increasing nw winds overnight and snow showers above 300m
expected tomorrow morning will produce areas of unstable windslab on
south and east facing slopes, where avalanches are likely. the
avalanche risk is expected to be category three (medium).
