avalanche risk at 1400 on mon 27/12/93
old windslab on se facing slopes still shows signs of instability.
stronger than forecast s winds have also re-distributed snow onto
north facing slopes and gullies. a category 3 (medium localised) risk
of avalanche on steep slopes where any significant slab accumulation
exists.

avalanche risk outlook for tue 28/12/93
a forecast of gale force southerly winds and snow (fl-all levels
going to 800m) will lead to a build up of windslab on north facing
slopes and gullies. avalanches will occur in these areas. category 4
(high) risk of avalanche.
summary.
a category 4 (high) risk of avalanche will exist, mainly on slopes of
a northerly aspect.


lochaber
avalanche risk at 1400 on mon 27/12/93
areas of unstable slab exist mainly on north and west facing
slopes. on slopes which are not exposed to the sun, a weak layer
is present in the snowpack. the avalanche risk is category 3
(medium)

avalanche risk outlook for tue 28/12/93
heavy snow overnight accompanied by strong s-sw winds will produce
large areas of unstable windslab, particularly on north-easterly
aspects. wet snow avalanches will occur below 900m and slab
avalanches will occur above 900m, especially on north-easterly
aspects. the avalanche risk will increase to category 4 (high).

summary.
heavy snow,strong s-sw winds and a rising freezing level will produce
