avalanche risk at 1400 on fri 31/12/93
large areas of unstable windslab exist, mainly on slopes with a n and
e aspect. the avalanche risk is category 4 (high). avalanche activity
observed in the eastern corries of aonach mor.

avalanche risk outlook for sat 1/1/94
heavy snow overnight accompanied by sw to w winds will further load
existing areas of unstable windslab. greatest accumulations will be
on north and north-east facing slopes where avalanches will occur.
the avalanche risk will remain at category 4 (high).

northern cairngorms
avalanche risk at 1400 on fri 31/12/93
cold, dry and calm conditions have helped to  stabilise the snowpack
in most areas. however, strong temperature gradients through the
snowpack in high, shaded north-facing slopes and gullies give a
category 3 (medium localised) risk of avalanche in those areas.

avalanche risk outlook for sat 1/1/94
a forecast of moderate sw winds and the chance of light/moderate snow
showers should lead to a build up of windslab on north to east facing
slopes and gullies: a category 3 (medium localised) risk of avalanche
where accumulations are greatest.
