avalanche risk at 1500 on sun 9/1/94
areas of unstable hard slab exist on most lee slopes. this slab is
poorly bonded to the underlying snow layers. the avalanche risk is
category 3 (medium).

avalanche risk outlook for mon 10/1/94
rain at all levels overnight and tomorrow will lubricate the existing
slab and cause a deep instability within the snowpack. wet snow
avalanches will occur on slopes where today`s unstable slab exists.
the avalanche risk will rise to category 4 (high). cornices will be
prone to collapse.

northern cairngorms
avalanche risk at 1500 on sun 9/1/94
storm conditions have resulted in fresh accumulations of hard
windslab being deposited primarily on nw to n facing slopes. with the
recent rise in freezing levels (1600m) a category 4 (high) risk of
avalanche exists on high lee slopes and gullies where recent deposits
overlie softer snow. any cornice development is likely to be
unstable.

avalanche risk outlook for mon 10/1/94
remaining mild with rain at all levels, winds reducing but continuing
strong. freezing levels lowering slightly to 1500m. the moderate to
heavy rain will further moisten the snowpack giving a risk of cornice
collapse and wet snow slides on  slopes where any significant
accumulations exist. category 4 (high localised) risk of avalanche.

summary.
recent new snow deposits will remain unstable in thaw. a risk of
cornice collapse exists. avalanche risk category 4 (high localised)
