Significant scouring and drifting noted on the plateau. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche. Avalanche triggered on E flank of Cairngorm. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR MON 24/1/94 Strong to gale force W to NW winds - moderating by morning - combined with snow showers will continue to load unstable windslab onto E thru SE-facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur. Pockets of marginally stable windslab may form high on NE-facing slopes and gullies much later in the period as the winds become SW. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche. SUMMARY. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche on E thru SE-facing slopes and gullies; windslab build up possible on NE-facing gullies later. LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON SUN 23/1/94 Strong W winds and snow have formed localised areas of windslab, mainly on easterly aspects. The avalanche risk is Category 3 (Medium Localised). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR MON 24/1/94 Continuing strong westerly winds and snow will form more extensive areas of windslab mainly on E and SE aspects, where avalanches are likely. The avalanche risk is expected to be Category 3 (Medium). SUMMARY. Areas of windslab forming on E and SE aspects where avalanches are likely. Category 3 (Medium). GLENCOE AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON SUN 23/1/94 Fresh soft windslab has formed on a frozen base. Largest accumulations are to be found in gullies and sheltered hollows on all aspects of N facing corries above 700m. Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR MON 24/1/94 Strong/gale force W/NW winds with snow showers will lead to fresh accumulations of windslab on N through to E facing slopes above 650m, maintaining the Avalanche Risk Category at 3 (Medium). SUMMARY. Strong/gale force winds and fresh snow will maintain Avalanche Risk Category at 3 (Medium), mainly on N and E facing slopes -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
