AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 25/1/94 Gale/severe gale force SW/W winds with heavy snowfall will lead to large accumulations of windslab mainly on N through to E facing slopes and gullies above 650m. Avalanches are likely where windslab exists. Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium). Unstable cornices will form above N to E slopes. SUMMARY. Gale/severe gale force winds and heavy snow will deposit unstable windslab mainly on N through to E slopes. Avalanche Risk 3 (Medium). LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 24/1/94 A generally stable snowpack exists above 600m. Although new snow exists in E facing corries it shows generally good stability. The avalanche risk is Category 2 (Low). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 25/1/94 A mild spell overnight will produce loose wet snow slides in E facing corries. A return to colder conditions and heavy snow on Tuesday morning will load E facing slopes with unstable windslab. The avalanche risk will be Category 3 (Medium). SUMMARY. After a brief thaw overnight, snow and Westerly winds will load East facing slopes with unstable windslab. Risk Category 3 (Medium). NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 24/1/94 A generally very stable snowpack exists. Recent storm conditions have however resulted in pockets of windslab on high, steep sheltered E to SE facing slopes and gullies. The avalanche risk is Category 3 (Medium Localised). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 25/1/94 Forecasted thaw followed by a return to colder conditions with very strong SW to W winds and snow will lead to accumulations of windslab on N to E facing slopes and gullies where avalanches are likely. Category 3 (Medium) risk. SUMMARY.
