AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 27/1/94
There is a widespread, stable windcrust on the surface of the
snowpack. Areas of unstable soft windslab, containing hail, exist in
gullies and hollows in N facing corries above 750m. Avalanche Risk
Category 3 (Medium).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 28/1/94
Precipitation as snow above 200m and high NW winds will form deposits
of windslab on NE through to S facing slopes above 750m giving
Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium). Avalanches are likely in these
areas.

SUMMARY.
Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium) is maintained on NE through to S
facing slopes above 750m  and avalanches are likely in these areas.


NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 27/1/94
Storm force W winds and snow showers have deposited marginally stable
windslab on to NE through to SE-facing slopes and gullies. Largest
accumulations exist high on steep, sheltered slopes of an E aspect.
Category 3 (Medium) risk of avalanche. Cairngorm stormbound today.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 28/1/94
Forecasted heavy, later moderate snow showers and storm force NW
winds will load additional windslab on to already suspect NE through
to SE-facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur. Category
4 (High) risk of avalanche.

SUMMARY.
Heavy snow at times and storm force NW winds will give a Category 4
(High) risk of avalanche on NE through to SE-facing slopes.


LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 27/1/94
Storm conditions have produced large areas of unstable windslab,
greatest accumulations being on easterly aspects. The avalanche risk is
Category 4 (High).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 28/1/94
Continuing snow and strong NW winds will further load lee slopes with
unstable windslab. Avalanches will occur on all aspects between NE
and S. Unstable cornices will form an lee slopes. The avalanche risk
will remain at Category 4 (High).


SUMMARY.
Avalanches will occur on all aspects between NE and S. Cornices will
be unstable. Risk remaining at Category 4 (High).
