AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 28/1/94
There are widespread areas of unstable windslab, both hard and soft,
lying on a stable windcrust base, mainly on NE through E to S facing
slopes above 850m. Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium). Debris
observed below Boomerang Gully, Coire nan Lochan.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 29/1/94
Overnight snowfall and SE wind will form windslab on mainly N through
to W facing slopes above 800m. Heavy rain at all levels on Sat. will
give a high risk of wet slab avalanche above 750m wherever windslab
exists, giving Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). Avalanches will
occur as areas of windslab become moistened.

SUMMARY.
Avalanche Risk Category will increase to 4 (High) on all aspects
above 750m. Avalanches will occur in these areas.


NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 28/1/94
Cold temperatures, strong generally NW winds in combination with
heavy snow showers have created accumulations of unstable windslab on
E through to S facing slopes and gullies. Largest accumulations are
on steep slopes of a SE aspect. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 29/1/94
A forecast of heavy snow showers, turning to heavy rain for a time,
accompanied by a rise in freezing level to 2000m with strong SW winds
is expected to maintain the current high avalanche hazard on E to S
facing slopes and gullies. New windslab that forms on slopes and
gullies of a NE aspect early in the period may also show marginal
stability in heavy thaw conditions. Category 4 (High) risk of
avalanche on NE to S facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will
occur.

SUMMARY.
Heavy thaw conditions will maintain the Category 4 (High) risk of
avalanche on NE to S facing slopes and gullies.


LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 28/1/94
Strong NW winds have deposited pockets of very unstable snow in
sheltered areas, these areas are predominantly on E and SE facing
slopes. The avalanche risk is Category 4 (High Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 29/1/94
Overnight snow and moderate SE winds will load NW facing slopes with
unstable windslab. An approaching warm front will bring wet
conditions during the day. Wet snow avalanches are likely on NW facing
slopes. The avalanche risk is expected to be Category 3 (Medium).

SUMMARY.
Unstable windslab forming overnight on NW slopes, becoming wet  snow
on Saturday, with avalanches likely. Category 3 (Medium).
