New snow and strong winds have continued to form areas of layered,
soft windslab lying on a stable neve base. Deepest accumulations are
to be found mainly on N though to E facing slopes above 750m.
Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR WED 2/2/94
Further precipitation as snow above 500m and strong SW winds will
continue to form areas of soft windslab in gullies and sheltered
hollows above 700m. Greatest accumulations of snow are to be expected
on slopes with a N and E facing aspect maintaining the Avalanche Risk
Category 3 (Medium).Becoming colder.

SUMMARY. Strong winds and fresh snow. Avalanche Risk Category 3
(Medium).


NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON TUE 1/2/94
A generally stable snowpack exists. Moderate snow showers accompanied
by strong W winds and a lowering freezing level have deposited
pockets of unstable snow on sheltered slopes of an E aspect, giving a
Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche. 

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR WED 2/2/94
Forecasted moderate to strong SW wind accompanied by light snow showers
and a drop in freezing level will result in increased deposits of
unstable snow particulary on sheltered N to E facing slopes. The
avalanche risk will remain Category 3 (Medium Localised).

SUMMARY.
Light snow showers accompanied by strong SW winds and light snow
showers will deposit unstable snow on N to E slopes. Category 3
(Medium Localised) risk of avalanche.


LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON TUE 1/2/94
Wet and generally stable snow exists below 1100m. Above this
altitude, areas of unstable windslab exist mainly on E aspects. Where
this windslab exists the avalanche risk is Category 3 (Medium).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR WED 2/2/94
Heavy snow above 300m overnight and tomorrow will load slopes with
unstable windslab. Greatest accumulations will be on N and E aspects
where avalanches will occur. The avalanche risk will rise to Category
4 (High).

SUMMARY.
Unstable windslab forming mainly on N and E aspects where avalanches
will occur. Avalanche risk increasing to Category 4 (High).
