Snowfall and strong winds have continued to deposit areas of layered, soft windslab which is lying on a neve base.Deep accumulations are to be found on most slopes above 600m , but gullies and sheltered hollows with a N aspect give the greatest risk. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 3/2/94. Strong SE wind and little or no precipitation forecasted. However windslab will continue to form in sheltered areas above 600m on W though to N facing slopes. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). SUMMARY. Large deposits of fresh snow have increased the Avalanche Risk Category to 4 (High),persisting mainly on W to N facing slopes. LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 2/2/94 Fresh unstable slab exists on slopes and gullies with a NE and E aspect. The avalanche risk is Category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 3/2/94 Drifting overnight will continue to load NE aspects with unstable slab. As the day progresses, winds will back and unstable windslab will also be deposited on NW and N aspects, including the Red Burn area on Ben Nevis. Avalanches will occur on all northerly aspects. The avalanche risk is expected to remain at Category 4 (High). SUMMARY. Unstable windslab forming on all northerly aspects, including the Red Burn area on Ben Nevis. Category 4 (High). NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 2/2/94 Accumulations of snow on steep, sheltered E aspects show signs of instability and the avalanche risk remains at Category 3 (Medium Localised). The debris of several loose snow avalanches (released yesterday) were observed on Hells Lum and in Coire an t-Sneachda. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 3/2/94 Forecasted moderate winds, SW becoming SE and remaining dry (FL 600m). There will be some consolidation of the snowpack giving rise to a Category 2 (Low) risk of avalanche. SUMMARY. Recent accumulations of snow on E aspects should start to consolidate.
