Avalanches are likely on northerly aspects, including the Red Burn area on Ben Nevis. The avalanche risk is expected to be Category 3 (Medium). SUMMARY. Unstable windslab remaining on N aspects, including the Red Burn area on Ben Nevis. Avalanche risk is expected to be Category 3 (Medium) GLENCOE AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 4/2/94. Strong winds have continued to deposit areas of layered , soft windslab this is lying on a icy/neve base.Deep accumulations are to be found on most slopes above 600m,however gullies and sheltered hollows with a N aspect give the greatest risk.Large cornices have formed above most N facing corries. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 5/2/94. Becoming milder with strong SSE/S winds and precipitation falling as snow above 800m this will continue to build up layers of windslab in sheltered areas, below 800m wet snow slides will occur.Greatest accumulations of slab are lying on W though to N facing gullies and slopes.Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). SUMMARY. Large deposits of windslab and strong winds are maintaining the high Avalanche Risk at Category 4 (High). NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 4/2/94 Storm force S winds and snow has led to accumulations of unstable slab on NW to NE facing slopes and gullies resulting in a Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche in these areas. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 5/2/94 Forecasted storm force S winds will lead to a continued drifting of snow onto NW through to NE facing slopes and gullies maintaining the current Category 4 (High) risk. Avalanches will occur. Cornice formation is likely at the top of these slopes. SUMMARY.
