There is a general stable refrozen crust on the surface of the
snowpack. Above 950m there are small areas of windslab, mainly on N
though to E facing slopes giving Avalanche Risk Category 3
(Medium Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 11/2/94
Rising temperature and some sleet will cause moistening, softening
and some de-stabilising of the snowpack, mainly in N facing corries
above 900m. Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium).

SUMMARY.
General moistening of the snowpack will maintain the Avalanche Risk
Category 3 (Medium), mainly in N facing corries above 900m.


LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 10/2/94
Cold conditions overnight have consolidated the existing snowpack.
Small pockets of fresh snow, covered with a breakable crust are
present on slopes above 1000m. The avalanche risk is Category 2
(Low).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 11/2/94
An increase in temperature overnight will create thaw conditions at
all levels. Wet snow avalanches are likely on all aspects. There will
also be a high risk of cornice collapse above eastern slopes. The
avalanche risk is expected to be Category 3 (Medium).

SUMMARY.
Wet snow avalanches and cornice collapse are likely due to thaw
conditions. Avalanche risk Category 3 (Medium).


NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 10/2/94
Milder temperatures have brought about some consolidation within the
snowpack on E to SE facing slopes and gullies. Heavy scouring has
created hard icy, or crusty, conditions in many other places.
Category 3 (Medium) risk of avalanche.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 11/2/94
The generally stable, dry conditions are forecast to continue through
the period. However, moderate, primarily S winds may redeposit lying
snow as patches of windslab on slopes and gullies of a N aspect,
giving a Category 3 (Medium) risk of avalanche.

SUMMARY.
Category 3 (Medium) risk of avalanche on slopes and gullies of a N
aspect.
