GLENCOE AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 11/2/94 Generally there is a stable refrozen crust on the surface of the snowpack. Above 950m areas of windslab exist, mainly on N through to E facing slopes. Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium Localised). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 12/2/94 The freezing level will fall to 800m after a period of thaw at all levels. This will stabilise the windslab at higher levels giving Avalanche Risk Category 2 (Low). SUMMARY. Falling freezing level will stabilise the snowpack giving Avalanche Risk Category 2 (Low). NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 11/2/94 A generally stable snowpack exists. However gale force S winds have redeposited lying snow on to steep sheltered slopes of a N aspect and although these pockets of slab are small they present a Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 12/2/94 Dry but very strong S winds are forecast to continue through the period. This will lead to old lying snow being redeposited onto steep sheltered N facing slopes and gullies and where accumulations are greatest a Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche will exist. SUMMARY. Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche where pockets of windslab exist on sheltered N aspects. LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 11/2/94 A moist snowpack exists below 1100m. Above that altitude, localised areas of unstable snow exist on some aspects. The avalanche risk is Category 3 (Medium Localised). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 12/2/94 Some fresh snow overnight and tomorrow accompanied by strong SSE winds will deposit unstable windslab. Greatest accumulations will be on northerly aspects. Where this fresh snow exists, the avalanche risk is expected to be Category 3 (Medium). SUMMARY. Fresh unstable windslab forming mainly on northerly aspects. Where this fresh snow exists the avalanche risk will be Category 3 (Medium) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
