AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 16/2/94
Generally there is a stable refrozen crust on the surface of the
snowpack but there are areas of windslab mainly in gullies and
sheltered slopes of a W through to N aspect above 600m. Avalanche
Risk Category 3 (Medium Localised) where windslab exists.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 17/2/94
A cold dry SE airflow will strengthen during course of day. The
condition of snowpack is not expected to change sigificantly. Areas of
windslab will require caution. Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium
Localised).

SUMMARY.
A cold SE airflow will maintain Avalanche Risk at 3 (Medium Localised)
with areas of windslab mainly on slopes with a W through to N aspect.


NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 16/2/94
Very cold and calm conditions have induced a strong temperature
gradient across the snowpack which has resulted in some suspicious
'slabby' areas on high sheltered N and E facing slopes and gullies.
Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche. Large cornices noted
on rim of N.Corries and at the top of the Lum on Hell's Lum crag.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 17/2/94
Calm, dry and cold conditions are forecasted to continue through the
period although there is a risk of lying snow being redeposited as
pockets of new windslab on N facing slopes when the wind freshens
from the SE during the day. Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of
avalanche in those areas.

SUMMARY.
Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche on N facing slopes
and gullies.


LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 16/2/94
Small areas of unstable snow are lying on a generally stable base.
Greatest accumulations on NW facing slopes. The avalanche risk is
Category 3 (Medium Loalised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 17/2/94
Cold conditions will prevail overnight and tomorrow. Increasing SE
winds will form small areas of unstable slab, mainly on NW facing
slopes. The avalanche risk is expected to remain at Category 3
(Meduim Localised).

SUMMARY.
Generally stable snowpack. SE winds forming small areas of unstable
slab mainly on NW aspects. Category 3 (medium Localised).
