NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 18/2/94
Strong SE winds have redeposited snow as windslab in some sheltered N
facing gully areas but strong, local, contra winds have scoured many
areas down to snow-ice in the N.Corries. Category 3 (Medium) risk of
avalanche wherever accumulations of new windslab are greatest.

A steady rise in freezing level to 450m should help consolidate any
existing windslab. However, strong, dry SE winds are expected to
continue to redeposit snow as patches of new windslab on sheltered
slopes and gullies of a N aspect, giving a Category 3 (Medium
Localised) risk of avalanche in those areas.

SUMMARY.
Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche where patches of
windslab form on N facing sheltered slopes and gullies.


GLENCOE
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 18/2/94
Generally there is a refrozen stable surface crust on the snowpack.
Above 750m there are areas of fresh windslab on N through to W facing
slopes, mainly in gullies and hollows. Avalanche Risk Category 3
(Medium Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 19/2/94
Light snowfall and strong SSE winds will give some further accumulation
of windslab, mainly on N through to W facing slopes above 750m. Avalanche
Risk Category 3 (Medium Localised).

SUMMARY.
Generally stable snowpack, but areas of windslab on N through to W
facing slopes above 750m giving Avalanche Risk 3 (Medium Localised).


LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON FRI 18/2/94
A generally stable snowpack exists at most levels. Small areas of
unstable snow still exist, however these are generally confined to
northerly aspects. The avalanche risk is Category 3 (Medium
Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SAT 19/2/94
Continuing cold conditions will have little effect on the existing
snowpack. Small areas of unstable snow will still be present on
northerly aspects. The avalanche risk will remain at Category 3
(Medium Localised).

SUMMARY.
Small areas of unstable snow remaining on northerly aspects. Category
3 (Medium Localised).
