NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 21/2/94 Recent snow showers and moderate ESE winds have created pockets of soft, unstable windslab on steep, high lee areas of W to NW facing slopes and gullies. Category 4 (High Localised) risk of avalanche in those areas. The remainder of the hard and stable snowpack is interspersed with patches of old windslab covered with thin fresh snow. Debris from a small, cornice-triggered soft slab avalanche noted high on scarp slope N of Mess of Pottage crag in Coire an-t Sneachda. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 22/2/94 Light overnight snow showers and moderate, later strong, SE winds will continue to load unstable windslab onto high, sheltered NW facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur. LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 21/2/94 A generally stable snowpack exists on all aspects. The avalanche risk is Category 2 (Low). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 22/2/94 Cold easterly winds and no precipitation will have little effect on the existing stable snowpack. The avalanche risk will remain at Category 2 (Low). SUMMARY.
