Generally there is a refrozen stable surface crust on the snowpack.
Above 850m there are isolated areas of windslab on W through to N
facing slopes, mainly in gullies and hollows. Avalanche Risk Category
3 (Medium Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 22/2/94
Remaining cold with fresh/strong Easterly winds and no precipitation.
The condition of the snowpack is not expected to change
significantly. Areas of windslab, mainly on W through to N facing
slopes above 800m will require caution. Avalanche Risk Category 3
(Medium Localised).

SUMMARY.
Generally stable snowpack, but areas of windslab on W through to N
facing slopes above 800m giving Avalanche Risk 3 (Medium Localised).


NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 21/2/94
Recent snow showers and moderate ESE winds have created pockets of
soft, unstable windslab on steep, high lee areas of W to NW facing
slopes and gullies. Category 4 (High Localised) risk of avalanche in
those areas. The remainder of the hard and stable snowpack is
interspersed with patches of old windslab covered with thin fresh
snow. Debris from a small, cornice-triggered soft slab avalanche
noted high on scarp slope N of Mess of Pottage crag in Coire an-t
Sneachda.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 22/2/94
Light overnight snow showers and moderate, later strong, SE winds
will continue to load unstable windslab onto high, sheltered NW
facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur. Category 4
(High Localised) risk of avalanche.

SUMMARY.
Category 4 (High Localised) risk of avalanche on high, sheltered
areas of NW facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur.




LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 21/2/94
A generally stable snowpack exists on all aspects. The avalanche risk
is Category 2 (Low).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 22/2/94
Cold easterly winds and no precipitation will have little effect on
the existing stable snowpack. The avalanche risk will remain at
Category 2 (Low).

SUMMARY.
A stable snowpack is expected on all aspects. The avalanche risk will
remain at Category 2 (Low).
