Generally there is a refrozen stable surface crust on the snowpack.
Above 850m there are isolated areas of windslab on W through to N
facing slopes, mainly in gullies and hollows. Avalanche Risk Category
3 (Medium Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 24/2/94
Remaining cold with fresh/strong winds (SE backing NE) and light
snowfall. The condition of the snowpack is not expected to change
significantly. Areas of windslab, mainly on SW through to N facing
slopes above 800m will require caution. Avalanche Risk Category 3
(Medium Localised).

SUMMARY.
Generally stable snowpack, but areas of windslab on SW through to N
facing slopes above 800m giving Avalanche Risk 3 (Medium Localised).


LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 23/2/94
Small areas of unstable snow exist in an otherwise stable snowpack.
These areas are confined to westerly aspects and other sheltered
locations due to localised wind effects. The avalanche risk is
Category 3 (Medium Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 24/2/94
Light snowfall overnight accompanied by strong SE winds will further
load westerly aspects and other sheltered locations with areas of
unstable windslab. The avalanche risk is expected to remain at
Category 3 (Medium Localised).

SUMMARY.
Strong SE winds and light snowfall forming areas of unstable slab on
W aspects and sheltered locations. Category 3 (Medium Localised).


NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 23/2/94
Recent snowfalls and strong SE winds have resulted in accumulations
of slab on many high sheltered N to W facing slopes and gullies,
where a Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche exists.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 24/2/94
Further light snowfall and moderate Easterly winds will maintain a
Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche primarily on high N to W facing
slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur.

SUMMARY.
Current Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche will be maintained on N
to W facing slopes and gullies.
