LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON TUE 1/3/94 Large areas of unstable windslab exist mainly on W and N aspects. On other aspects, small areas of unstable windslab also exist in sheltered areas, caused by local wind effects. The avalanche risk is Category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR WED 2/3/94 Overnight snow with SW winds will continue to load sheltered slopes with unstable windslab. Greatest accumulations will be on N and E aspects, where avalanches will occur. The avalanche risk is expected to remain at Category 4 (High). SUMMARY. Large areas of unstable windslab will be present mainly on N and E aspects, where avalanches will occur. Category 4 (High). GLENCOE AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON TUE 1/3/94 Rising temperature has moistened the snowpack below 850m. Windslab is still present and is lying on an icy base.Greatest accumulations are to be found on SW through to N facing slopes above 600m. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High).Avalanche activity observed on Buachaille Etive Beag. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR WED 2/3/94. New snow and strong W winds will deposit fresh accumulations mainly on E facing slopes above 700m.SW to N facing slopes will remain unstable.Below 700m thaw conditions will cause wet snow slides and avalanches on slopes of all aspects. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). SUMMARY High avalanche risk on all slopes above 500m. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON TUE 1/3/94 The snowpack on steep SW to N facing slopes and gullies is very weakly stabilised. Avalanche debris from several slides noted on NW to N facing crag aprons in Coire an t-Sneachda together with large pieces of debris from recently collapsed cornices. Avalanche activity also noted below 700m on NW shoulder of Castle Hill nr. Rothiemurchus Lodge. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR WED 2/3/94 Heavy overnight snow showers and moderate S winds will continue to load unstable windslab onto NW to N facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur. Light snow and strong W winds during Weds may result in the formation of marginally stable windslab on high, steep, sheltered E facing slopes and gullies later in the period. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche. SUMMARY. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche will be maintained primarily on NW to N facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
