GLENCOE AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 2/3/94 New moist snow has accumulated above 600m on all slopes with a N aspect. Windslab has formed on SW through to NE facing slopes above 700m.Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 3/3/94. New snow and strong W winds will deposit fresh accumulations of snow mainly on E facing slopes above 600m. Sheltered hollows and gullies will hold the greatest deposits of layered windslab with a high risk of victim triggered avalanches. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). SUMMARY High avalanche risk on all slopes above 650m,where avalanches will occur. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 2/3/94 Large areas of unstable windslab are present mainly on E and S facing slopes However localised wind effects have also formed areas of unstable snow in sheltered locations. Avalanche activity observed in Eastern corries of Aonach Mor. The avalanche risk is category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 3/3/94 Overnight snow with SW winds will continue to load sheltered slopes with unstable windslab. Greatest accumulations will be on N and E aspects where avalanches will occur. The avalanche risk is expected to remain at Category 4 (High). SUMMARY. SW winds will continue to load unstable windslab on to N and E facing slopes, where avalanches will occur. Category 4 (High). NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON WED 2/3/94 Accumulations of snow from recent storm cycle still shows signs of instability particularly on steep sheltered N through to W facing slopes and gullies. Strong W winds are presently re-distributing snow onto slopes of an E aspect where cornice triggered avalanches have been initiated. A Category 4 (High Localised) risk of avalanche exists in all areas mentioned above. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR THU 3/3/94 Forecasted very strong SW winds and sleet turning to snow above 600m. This will lead to a further build up of windslab on N to E facing slopes and gullies where avalanches will occur, thus maintaining the Category 4 (High Localised) risk of avalanche where any accumulations of slab are significant. SUMMARY. Category 4 (High Localised) risk of avalanche on N to E facing slopes and gullies, where avalanches will occur. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
