GLENCOE AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 3/3/94 New moist snow has accumulated above 600m on all slopes with a N aspect.Areas of unstable soft windslab, containing hail, exist in gullies and sheltered hollows on SW through to NE facing slopes above 600m.Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 4/3/94. Overnight new moist snow and gale force SW winds will deposit fresh accumulations of snow on NW through to NE facing slopes above 650m.Friday,heavy thaw as the freezing level rises to above the summits with storm force SW winds maintaining the high risk of avalanche. Avalanches will occur on on most slopes at all levels.Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). SUMMARY Avalanches will occur on slopes of most aspects at all levels due to heavy thaw. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 3/3/94 Areas of windslab from last weekend`s storm on N through to NW facing slopes still show signs of instability. Snow showers and storm force W winds are continuing the development of unstable cornices and slab on sheltered NE through to SE facing slopes and gullies giving a Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche where accumulations are greatest. Very large cornice triggered slab initiated on E facing slope over looking Strath Nethy. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 4/3/94 Forecasted storm force W winds and snow turning very quickly to rain in the morning as the FL rises from 800m to 1600m. Rapid thaw conditions will seriously weaken recent cornice and windslab deposits on NE to SE facing slopes as well as increase the risk of avalanche of old slab accumulations on N to W aspects. Avalanches will occur in all the areas mentioned above, resulting in a Category 4 (High) risk. The likelihood of large avalanches is considerable. SUMMARY. A Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche exists on NW through N to E facing slopes where avalanches will occur. LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 3/3/94 Large areas of unstable windslab are present on easterly aspects, this soft slab is lying on top of a icy base. Avalanches triggered by cornice collapse observed in eastern corries of Aonach Mor. The avalanche risk is Category 4 (High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 4/3/94 An approaching mild SW airstream will bring rain and thawing at all levels. Wet snow avalanches and cornice collapse will occur, with the greatest danger on N, E and SE facing slopes. The avalanche risk will remain at Category 4 (High). SUMMARY. Wet snow avalanches and cornice collapse will occur due to thaw and rain at all levels, mainly on N, E and SE aspects. Category 4 (High). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
