GLENCOE AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 17/3/94 There is a widespread moderate/deep cover of fresh snow in N facing corries, which has formed as soft windslab above 600m mainly on N through to E facing slopes. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). Large cornices have formed above N through to E facing slopes. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 18/3/94 Snow showers and fresh/strong W wind will give further accumulation of windslab on N through to SE facing slopes and in all gullies and hollows in N facing corries above 600m. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). Avalanches will occur where deep windslab exists. SUMMARY. Avalanches will occur in N facing corries due to the widespread accumulation of windslab. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High). LOCHABER AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 17/3/94 Large areas of very unstable snow exist on NE, E and SE facing slopes. Avalanche activity observed in eastern corries of Aonach Mor. The avalanche risk is Category 5 (Very High). AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 18/3/94 Continuing snowfall and WNW winds will further load existing unstable snow, on NE, E and SE facing slope. Avalanches will occur in these areas. Large soft snow cornices will be prone to collapse. The avalanche risk is expected to remain at Category 5 (Very High). SUMMARY. Large areas of very unstable snow on all easterly aspects, where avalanches will occur. Category 5 (Very High) NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON THU 17/3/94 Moderate NW winds and new snowfall have created further areas of unstable windslab, mainly on E and S facing slopes. Many N facing slopes have been scoured, although localised areas of marginally stable slab remain. Much loose snow avalanche activity observed on E and S facing slopes above 900m. Category 4 (High) risk of avalanche. AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR FRI 18/3/94 Overnight snow showers and moderate WNW winds becoming westerly will continue into Friday.
