LOCHABER
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 21/3/94
Large areas of unstable snow are still present mainly on NE, E and SE
aspects. Cornices are still very unstable. The avalanche risk is
Category 4 (High).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 22/3/94
Thaw conditions overnight will produce a high risk of wet snow
avalanches and cornice collapse. Fresh snow tomorrow morning
accompanied by strong WSW winds will form fresh unstable windslab,
mainly on NE and E aspects. Some avalanching is likely where this
fresh snow exists. The avalanche risk is expected to be Category 3
(Medium).

SUMMARY.
Thaw conditions overnight followed by colder conditions tomorrow will
form fresh windslab on NE and E aspects. Category 3 (Medium).

AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 21/3/94
New snow above 350m. has added to the existing layers of windslab on
N through to SE facing slopes.Greatest accumulations are to be found
in sheltered areas and gullies above 600m.  Risk of victim triggered
avalanches are likely where deposits are greatest.  Avalanche Risk
Category 3 (Medium).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR TUE 22/3/94
Storm force SW-W winds with snow at first turning to rain at all
levels, this will thoroughly moisten the snowpack. Wet snow
avalanches will occur where deposits are greatest on slopes of all
aspects. Avalanche Risk Category 4 (High).

SUMMARY
Storm force winds and thaw conditions forecast. Avalanches will occur
increasing Avalanche Risk Category to 4 (High).

NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON MON 21/3/94
Accumulations of moderately stabilised windslab exist primarily on N
facing slopes and gullies with smaller patches on some SE to E facing
slopes. Category 3 (Medium Localised) risk of avalanche.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR 22/3/94
Forecasted freezing level fluctuating around summits with moderate
snow and rain for a time, followed by light snow showers in strong W
then WSW winds will lead to the build up of marginally stabilised
windslab on E to NE facing slopes and gullies. Category 3 (Medium)
risk of avalanche where accumulations are greatest.

SUMMARY.
Category 3 (Medium) risk of avalanche on E to NE facing slopes and
gullies.
