AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON SAT 26/3/94
Generally there is a stable refrozen crust on the surface of the
snowpack. Above 800m there are areas of soft windslab mainly on NE
through to S facing slopes and in sheltered gullies and hollows.
Avalanche Risk Category 3 (Medium Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SUN 27/3/94
Storm force S winds and heavy rain at all levels during course of day
will thoroughly moisten the snowpack. Wet snow avalanches will occur
where deposits are greatest on slopes of all aspects. Avalanche Risk
Category 4 (High).



SUMMARY.
Wet snow avalanches will occur on slopes of all aspects during period
of heavy thaw increasing Avalanche Risk Category to 4 (High).

AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON SAT 26/3/94
Small areas of fresh unstable snow exist in an otherwise stable
snowpack. These unstable areas are confined to easterly aspects. The
avalanche risk is Category 3 (Medium Localised).

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SUN 27/3/94
An increase in temperature overnight will create thaw conditions at
all levels. Wet snow avalanches are likely on easterly aspects, there
will also be a high risk of cornice collapse. The avalanche risk will
be Category 3 (Medium).

SUMMARY.
Thaw conditions will make wet snow avalanches likely on easterly
aspects. High risk of cornice collapse. Category 3 (Medium).

NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS
AVALANCHE RISK AT 1500 ON SAT 26/3/94
The snowpack is generally well consolidated with hard, icy conditions
in many places. Recent windslab on most steep E aspects is reasonably
stabilised with only a few easily avoided areas of moderately stable
slab. Category 2 (Low) risk of avalanche. A very large cornice
remains over the Lum on Hell's Lum crag, where some ice fall was also
observed in warmer conditions later in the day.

AVALANCHE RISK OUTLOOK FOR SUN 27/3/94
Forecasted moderate sleet or snow showers during the day and v.strong
S winds may lead to the development of accumulations of marginally
stable windslab on N facing slopes and gullies. Category 3 (Medium)
risk of avalanche in those areas by the end of the period.

SUMMARY.
Category 3 (Medium) risk of avalanche on N facing slopes and gullies
by the end of the period.
