NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS MON 18/12/95 A thin accumulation of new snow exists above 500m with some deeper deposits in sheltered plateau areas. The existing shallow snowpack is stable. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK TUE 19/12/95 Wintry conditions overnight with NW winds and heavier snow showers on Tues will cause additional accumulations of less stable snow primarily on SE slopes. The avalanche hazard will become Moderate (Category 2) on S to SE facing slopes. CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: A light cover of early season snow exists above 500m. Deeper accumulations only on very high sheltered pleateau areas. ICING: A small quantity of barely useable ice exists in a few locations. COMMENT: All gully lines very thin with little build up.Hoar and well-frozen turf on buttresses. LOCHABER AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS MON 18/12/95 A light dusting of snow exists above 800m. No significant accumulations are present. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK TUE 19/12/95 Light to moderate snow accumulations accompanied by NE winds are expected overnight and tomorrow. Snow accumulations are likely to be greatest on S and W facing slopes above 800m. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate (Category 2 Localised), where significant accumulations exist. CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Light dusting of snow above 800m. ICING: Widespread icing on open slopes. COMMENT: Freezing level remaining low. GLENCOE AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS MON 18/12/95 A very light covering of fresh snow exists above 700m.There is no significant depth of snow to be of any hazard. Avalanche Hazard Low (Category 1).
