NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS WED 20/12/95 Fresh snow lies at all levels and some deeper patches of windslab are present on most steep S aspects above 1000m. Some instability was noted in these areas but the avalanche hazard remains Low (Category 1) as the windslab deposits are sparsely distributed. AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THU 21/12/95 Some light snow showers on light to moderate E winds late on Thurs may result in some thin patches of windslab on steep W aspects. Cold,stable conditions prior to that will further weaken the sparse windslab accumulations on high S facing slopes but the the avalanche hazard will remain Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Fresh snow lies at all levels with a few deeper deposits in some sheltered locations. ICING: The crags are white with snow but neve and ice build up is generally poor. COMMENT: Technical buttress routes are the only ones of interest in present conditions. LOCHABER AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS WED 20/12/95 There has been no change to the present conditions, as there has been no snow overnight or during the day. A hard frost and a dusting of snow exists above 800m. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THU 21/12/95 There is insufficient snow lying or forecast to form any avalanche hazard. The avalanche hazard will remain Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: A light dusting of snow exists above 800m. ICING: Widespread icing persists as the temperature remains sub-zero at sea level. COMMENT: Despite the lack of snow, some routes are coming into condition on Ben Nevis. GLENCOE AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS WED 20/12/95 A very light covering of fresh snow exists above 800m.There is no significant depth of snow to be of any hazard. Avalanche hazard Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THUR 21/12/95 Remaining very cold with light snow showers. Avalanche hazard will remain Low (Category 1).
