AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 13/2/96
NE winds accompanied by snow showers have built up localised
accumulations of poorly bonded windslab primarily on S to SW
facing slopes. In these areas a Considerable (Category 3)
hazard exists.

AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 14/2/96
Similar weather conditions for tomorrow morning will initially
result in little change to the current situation. By
mid-morning however the winds will veer NW then W becoming
stronger accompanied by snow showers. This will result in frqu

LOCHABER
AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS WED 14/2/96
Large areas of hard windslab exist on slopes and gullies with a
SW, W and NW aspect. There are also localised areas of unstable
soft slab on slopes and gullies with a N and NE aspect. The
avalanche hazard is Considerable (Category 3).

AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THU 15/2/96
Milder conditions are expected overnight and tomorrow, with the
freezing level rising to above the summits. Existing areas of
slab will become weakly bonded. Avalanches are likely on slopes
and gullies with aspects between SW and NE. The avalanche
hazard is expected to be Considerable (Category 3).



CLIMBING CONDITIONS

SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Main accumulations on West and North aspects
above 600m.
ICING: Ice and snow will thaw at all levels on Thursday.

AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS WED 14/2/96
Areas of deep windslab exist in sheltered hollows and gullies
and on slopes facing NW through to NE mainly above 700m.Where
windslab lies on steep sheltered ground the avalanche hazard is
Considerable (Category 3).

AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THU 15/2/96
A rapid rise in temperature during Wed. night will make the
snowpack very unstable.Where deep soft snow lies mainly in
hollows and gullies and on corrie side/headwalls facing NW to
NE avalanches will occur.The avalanche hazard will be High
(Category 4).



CLIMBING CONDITIONS

SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Snow above 500m.
ICING: Thawing ice above 400m.
COMMENT:Low level ice climbs done Wed. under threat of collapse
on Thurs!
