AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 6/3/96 Light to moderate variable winds with possible light snow showers overnight are unlikely to result in any change to the current situation. Avalanche hazard remains Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Extensive cover on the plateau - icy at high levels becoming heavier below 700m. ICING: Routes well frozen with ice of variable quality in gullies and on buttresses. COMMENT: Easy gullies are firm underfoot. LOCHABER AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 5/3/96 Slightly colder conditions overnight have further stabilised the existing snowpack. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 6/3/96 The settled weather is expected to continue leading to little change in the existing avalanche hazard. The snowpack will remain generally stable with a slow thaw below 800m. The avalanche hazard will remain Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: General cover above 800m. ICING: Slow thaw below 800m. COMMENT: Climbing conditions unlikely to improve significantly tomorrow. GLENCOE AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 5/3/96 Cold conditions overnight have left the snowpack firm and stable this morning. Rising temperatures this afternoon have softened the snow and weakened cornices.Where soft moist snow lies on steep N to E facing corrie headwalls the avalanche hazard is Moderate (Category 2). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 6/3/96 The snowpack will be firm in the morning particularly above 800m gradually becoming more soft and moist as the day progresses. In steep gullies and corrie headwalls and where unstable cornices remain the avalanche hazard will be Moderate (Category 2) . CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Snow above 600m. ICING: Thawing ice above 600m. COMMENT: Firm snow ice in gullies in a.m. soft and moist by p.m. Cornices becoming unstable as day progresses. NW Gully, Central Gully, climbed this morning.
