The snowpack is stable. Low (Category 1) hazard of avalanche.

AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THU 7/3/96
Some light snow flurries are possible on NW winds but this will
bring little significant change to the snowpack. The avalanche
hazard will remain Low (Category 1).


CLIMBING CONDITIONS

SNOW DISTRIBUTION:
Good cover on the plateau. Spring conditions but becoming heavy
below 900m after midday.
ICING:
Gullies remain in good, firm condition. Quality and quantity of
ice varies.
COMMENT:
Splendid spring ski-touring at present.



LOCHABER
AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS WED 6/3/96
Cold conditions overnight have further stabilised the existing
snowpack. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1)

AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THUR 7/3/96
A cold freshening SE airstream with no precipitation will
maintain the existing stable snowpack. The avalanche hazard
will remain Low (Category 1).

CLIMBING CONDITIONS
SNOW DISTRIBUTION: General cover above 800m
ICING: Snow will freeze down to 600m during Thursday.
COMMENT: Ice axe and crampons essential for all hill users.





GLENCOE
AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS WED 6/3/96
Cold conditions overnight left the snowpack firm and stable
this morning.Rising temperatures have softened the snow
particularly in sunny corries such as Coire nan Lochan.The
snowpack in Coire Beith was altogether more firm.Where deep
soft snow and unstable cornices remain on steep corrie walls
the avalanche hazard is Moderate (Category 2)

AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK THU 7/3/96
The snowpack above 700m will be firm in the morning becoming
softer for a time before temperatures begin to fall in the
afternoon.The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1).Any
strong sun will soften and weaken remaining cornices.



CLIMBING CONDITIONS

SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Snow above 600m.
ICING: Thawing ice above 600m.
COMMENT: Snow in Coire Beith firm well into afternoon.Gullies
such as NW,Summit,Hourglass and Central in "alpine" condition.
Conditions in Coire nan Lochan less favourable.
