Thaw prevails LOCHABER AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS MON 23/2/98 The remaining snow is sparse and restricted to the main gullies of Ben Nevis and NE facing corries above 1000m. Wet and mainly consolidated snow remains, although wet snow instabilities are present, at the very tops of steep NE and E facing slopes and gullies above 1000m. Where this remaining wet slab exists, the avalanche hazard is Moderate (Category 2). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK TUE 24/2/98 Mild and windy conditions will persist during the next period. The remaining snow will continue to thaw and remain generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1) CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Remaining snow above 1000m on N and NE facing slopes and gullies. ICING: Freezing level remaining at 2000m on Tuesday. COMMENT: Gale force SW winds expected on the summits. GLENCOE AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS MON 23/2/98 The recent warm moist airstream has diminished the snowpack. The remaining snowpack is wet but generally stable with the greatest accumulations being on slopes with a Northerly aspect above 850m. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK TUE 24/2/98 The strong SW/W airflow will continue to bring warmer conditions to this area during Tuesday. The snowpack will remain wet but stable at all levels maintaining the Low avalanche hazard (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Wet snow above 850m ICING: No ice forming. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category1) AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK 24/1/98 The mild conditions will continue maintaining the snow in a moist but stable condition. The avalanche hazard will remain Low (Category1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Only patches remain. ICING: None left! COMMENT: Freezing level will be well above the summits. CREAG MEAGAIDH AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS MON 23/2/98 A return to mild, wet conditions has melted yesterday's fresh snow. The remaining snowpack is wet, generally well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK TUE 24/2/98 Continuing mild conditions will have little affect on the existing snowpack. The snowpack will remain generally well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Very sparse.
