The avalanche hazard will remain Low (Category 1) CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Very poor, patches only at highest elevations ICING: None COMMENT: Some change expected with a return of wintry conditions by end of week. LOCHABER AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 24/2/98 The remaining snowcover is sparse and restricted to the main gullies of Ben Nevis and NE facing corries above 1000m. Wet and mainly consolidated snow remains, which is generally stable. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 25/2/98 Mild and windy conditions will persist during the next 24 hours. The remaining snow will continue to thaw and remain generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1) CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Remaining snow above 1000m on N and NE facing slopes and gullies. ICING: Freezing level remaining at 2000m on Wednesday. COMMENT: Winter is expected to arrive again on Thursday. GLENCOE AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 24/2/98 The mild moist airstream has continued to affect the area with strong SW winds. The remaining snowpack is wet but generally well bonded and stable with the greatest accumulations being on slopes with a Northerly aspect above 850m. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 25/2/98 The strong but mild SW to W airflow will continue to influence the area during Wednesday. The snowpack will remain moist but stable at all levels maintaining the Low avalanche hazard (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Wet snow above 850m ICING: No ice forming. COMMENT: Strong to gale force winds. It should be slightly drier during Wednesday with colder conditions and snow! forecast for Thursday and Friday. SOUTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 24/2/98 The little remaining snow is continuing to thaw at all levels. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 25/2/98 Mild conditions will continue to thaw the little remaining snow at all levels. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Very little snow remains. ICING: None COMMENT: Very strong winds will continue to make high level hill walking and low level mountain biking tiresome. CREAG MEAGAIDH AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 24/2/98 Continuing mild, damp conditions have left the diminishing snowpack generally well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 25/2/98 Mild, dry weather is forecast for Wednesday. This will have little affect on the snowpack which will remain generally well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Shrinking daily. Most remaining patches are at the tops of the highest N to E facing slopes and gullies.
