NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS FRI 6/1/06 Temperatures have remained cold with moderate winds from the South-East carrying occasional flurries of light snow. Firm windslab lies in isolated areas on West to North aspects above 1100 metres. When tested on a North-West aspect at 1110 metres the snowpack showed some instability. The avalanche hazard is Moderate (Category 2). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK SAT 7/1/06 It will be a dry day with light winds from the South and temperatures will remain cold. The existing pockets of firm windslab which lie on West to North aspects above 1100 metres will be fairly well bonded. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate (Category 2). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Patches of hard snow lying on all aspects above 1000 metres. ICING: Rime on buttresses. Climbable ice on some South facing crags. COMMENT: Ground well frozen, we just need more snow! LOCHABER AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS FRI 6/1/06 Areas of re-frozen and stable snow are present mainly on North and East aspects above 1000m. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK SAT 7/1/06 The current cold and dry conditions will continue overnight and during Friday. The stable snow conditions will persist. Main accumulations will be on North and East aspects above 1000m. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Main accumulations on North and East aspects above 1000m. ICING: Remaining cold at all levels. COMMENT: Cold conditions expected to continue over the weekend. GLENCOE AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS FRI 6/1/06 Cold, dry and settled conditions have left the snowpack in a well bonded condition. Above 950 metres the odd pocket of shallow windslab exists in sheltered summit gullies. These accumulations are isolated and are generally avoidable. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK SAT 7/1/06 Cold, dry conditions with fresh Southerly winds will continue to affect the area. The snowpack will remain well bonded in most areas. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Snow above 900 metres. ICING: Freezing level 450 metres. COMMENT: Slopes and gullies with a North-West to North- Easterly aspect above 900 metres have the best snow cover. SOUTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS FRI 6/1/06 There is a trace of fresh snow on the hills with sheltered hollows collecting pockets of deeper new snow. Generally the cover is thin with some deeper well bonded deposits being found on W to N aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK SAT 7/1/06 It will be cold and dry with the current situation remaining mostly unchanged. The general cover will be thin with some well bonded deeper accumulations being found in sheltered locations on mainly W to N aspects above 900 metres. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Generally thin with some firm patches and occasional pockets of fresh snow. ICING: Staying cold with lean conditions prevailing. COMMENT: Tracks and paths remain icy. CREAG MEAGAIDH AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS FRI 6/1/06 Friday was a cold day with no precipitation and very light South-East winds. The snow cover has become further consolidated and stable with only isolated snow patches remaining above 800 metres. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK SAT 7/1/06 Friday overnight and through Saturday will remain dry and cold with no additional precipitation. This will result in no change to the current conditions. The re-frozen snowpack will remain sparse and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Very sparse.
