NORTHERN CAIRNGORMS AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 10/4/07 It has been a warm and dry day with a strong Westerly wind on the tops. Snowcover is reducing and the snow pack is quite compact with soft surface layers. The snowpack is generally stable on all aspects and altitudes. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 11/4/07 Strong dry Westerly winds overnight will decrease during the day. The freezing level will be above the summits. The snowpack will continue to thaw and will remain generally well bonded and stable on all aspects and altitudes. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Thin cover. ICING: None. COMMENT: Spring conditions. LOCHABER AVALANCHE HAZARD 1500 HRS TUE 10/4/07 Rain showers and mild temperatures have continued to deplete the snowpack. Large areas of spring snow remain, especially on East aspects above 900m. The snowpack is well consolidated and stable in all locations. The avalanche hazard is Low (Category 1). AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK WED 11/4/07 Patchy rain and mild temperatures are expected during Wednesday. The spring snowpack will continue to thaw at all levels. Stability will remain good. The avalanche hazard will be Low (Category 1). Remaining cornices will be prone to collapse in the mild damp conditions. CLIMBING CONDITIONS SNOW DISTRIBUTION: Large patches above 900m. ICING: Restricted to the main ice lines on Ben Nevis.
