Weather Influences

It will become milder with the freezing level lifting to above the summits. There will be occasional heavy outbursts of rain which will be mostly overnight.

Snow Stabilty Forecast

The snowpack will be moist but generally stable by morning on all aspects and altitudes. But areas of unstable windslab will persist on steeper slopes mostly on Northerly to Easterly aspects above 800 metres. Cornices will provide a significant hazard. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Observed Weather Influences

It has been a cold, cloudy day with strong winds from the South-West.

Observed Snow Stability

Poor to weakly bonded windslab is to be found on some North-Westerly but mostly Northerly to Easterly aspects above 850 metres. Areas most affected are scarp slopes and gully exits some of which have newly formed cornices. Some drifting has occurred but generally exposed areas remain well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
