AVALANCHE HAZARD THU 05/02/2009

After an overnight snowfall the day has been mostly clear with variable winds; NE. This has resulted in the development of soft windslab in sheltered lee locations. Where tested on a North Easterly aspect easy shears of recent soft slab, which overlies the old refrozen snowpack, were evident. The avalanche hazard is Considerable (Category 3)

AVALANCHE HAZARD OUTLOOK FRI 06/02/2009

There will be further snow showers overnight and during the day from a cold showery North Westerly airflow. Areas of windslab will continue to develop in high sheltered gully locations and around coire rims where exit slopes have been subject to cross-loading, avalanches are likely. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable (Category 3)

CLIMBING CONDITIONS

SNOW DISTRIBUTION: A general covering starting from valley floor with deeper drifter snow in higher lee locations
ICING: Crags looking more wintry with ice build up improving
COMMENT: Off the beaten trail fresh snow makes for slow progress. Trail now into the main coire due to efforts of some public spirited groups, good effort - excellent!
